  In an effort to make Alice in Wonderland conform to the platonic ideal of a childhood fairy tale or fable, Disney scaled back all things in Alice deemed “too grotesque and dark” (Walt’s words, not mine). The movie also makes an effort to de-emphasize aspects of Carroll’s original story that are perhaps too, not to sound pretentious, ‘brainy,’ leaving a musical adventure that is full of Disney heart and… perhaps not too much else.
