There's not a bad performance in the whole thing but the clear stand out is, happily, Ralph Fiennes who is perfectly cast and serves incredible face throughout.
Ritual sequestration is also the perfect setting for what is essentially a crime drama. The sequestration and various papal rituals are presented with a kind of soft realism that is both grounding and reverential. It's a joy to see a man in full robes struggle with the vatican photocopier.
