this movie was not fulfilling. idk how else to explain it. it's in the shell of something that seems conceptually rich but is actually very very hollow. has all the frills of a good new age psychological horror but the plot tanks it to an unimaginable degree. in another universe this could've been a movie mentioned in the same breath as hereditary and the vvitch if the plot and themes were enriched and given more of a purpose than just being there for cliches.

such a fun watch! so many cool details despite how over-the-top it is. for what this movie is, it does damn near everything right. coincidently watched "revenge" a little while ago unbeknownst to me that it was the same director and the substance garnered the same visceral reaction. so excited to see what coralie has in store for future films and I have this great feeling that she's gonna produce an incredible curveball of a film sometime soon to add to this intense, mind-bending, rollercoaster of a filmography.
