A friend of mine hates this movie and compares the twist to that Simpsons episode where Poochie suddenly dies on the way back to his home planet. I think it’s more like one of those Monty Python sketches where the camera seems to get bored and gently pans over to something completely different.

I think it’s a brilliant idea for a twist, but the execution leaves something to be desired. You’re handed this complete gear-change but it never fully delivers.…

David Foster Wallace talked about that special kind of intensity that conversations can have after about the fourth beer. That’s what this film was for me and I’ve cherished interesting, over-intellectualised rambling conversations with many people, beers or not. It feels like a love letter for those who revel in overthinking together, amplifying each other’s anxieties in a way that makes you feel authentic and just a little bit smug about how lovely and clever your massive brain is.

I loved this movie, and if you would also namedrop David Foster Wallace at the beginning of a Letterboxd review, you might love it too.

For such a graphic film it’s actually kinda sweet. Very all over the place though, lacking in parental guidance

A heart is a heavy burden, especially when your heart moves a giant teleporty house, cooks everyone’s breakfast and is voiced by Billy Crystal
