This movie can’t make its mind up about it’s identity. At times I feel like it’s going for a slight Argento vibe based the mannerisms of the antagonist, the choice of murder weapon, and the score…. I might be reaching but for me this was the take away. Pure and simple the writers added too many influences in one film. For example.. oh let’s give the monster psychic abilities not unlike Carrie’s, it must also have the physical killing capabilities…

Legend 1985
I really wanted to give this movie 5 stars but unfortunately I’m unable! The cinematography/world design is brilliant I can’t think of another fantasy movie that looks this gorgeous. Of course Tim Curry performed exceptionally as The Lord of Darkness, Mia Sara also was great in this as Princess Lili! I guess what really tanked this movie was Tom Cruise’s portrayal as Jack I felt it was uninspired and frankly bland especially for a character who is considered to the main protagonist of the film. It’s a shame because otherwise this would be a perfect flick.

Framed as a Drama/Comedy there is nothing fun or charming about this indie. The plot is basically about these super obnoxious kids and their father Lenny being a terrible but “well-meaning” parent to them. None of the characters are interesting or likable in this Safdie brothers film.
