Never Rarely Sometimes Always 2020
Wow. This film stands out as an incredibly accurate depiction of experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, the journey of seeking an abortion as a teenager in an unfriendly state, and navigating all of the complexities along the way. The most accurate depiction of obtaining an abortion I’ve seen in a movie, I think.

Nosferatu 2024
Hm. So many beautiful shots definitely, but I’m wrestling with whether the film is actually critiquing — or even just kinda sorta acknowledging— the tired idea that women’s autonomy and sexuality must be repressed and that women are destined for sacrifice. Something Wild 1986
John Waters cameo! The Feelies playing a high school reunion where attendees wore kitschy miniature American flag hats! The delightful strangers in the back- and foreground of nearly every scene! This was a fun one, most of the time.

Dinner in America 2020
OKAY WAIT. This turned out to actually be really fucking cute. A Rust Belt punk rock romance for the ages. 😍 A few notes:
1) I knew within 10 minutes that this was set somewhere within the Great Lakes region of America, specifically within an hour and a half of my hometown. I originally clocked it as Sandusky, Ohio, which wasn’t correct, but I was still within ~50 miles of Toledo.
2) This might be this generation’s Welcome to the Dollhouse
3) That song is a delight that I would listen to IRL???
4) “do you want to be in our riot grrrl band?” 😍Translated from by -
Mother Goose Rock 'n' Rhyme 1990
Scenes from this movie pop into my mind every few years, and until now, I thought it must have been some weird recurring fever dream because it was so disturbing. It just popped into my head again, so I finally searched for "bizarro ZZ Top and Humpty Dumpty movie," and there it is. I loved this movie. I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but I remember it being a dizzy, campy film that felt too adult for…
