A smart, sexy, couple spy thriller. Blanchett and Fassbender play off each other excellently. There’s a moment or two where I had the thought “this movie is not as clever as it thinks it is” but it was otherwise engaging and cool and occasionally funny. Some of the shots were really creative and a pleasure to take in. It’s like if you were supposed to take Mr & Mrs. Smith seriously and it was British.

The camera angles with the bleak yet haunting lovely seaside scenery were a pleasure to watch. I would have liked there to be a tiny bit of clarity so in a sense it seems like it’s incomplete but I guess that’s just what they were going for. Ambiguous and stylized would be the two words that come to mind.

A near perfect valentine days slasher, toeing the line between romantic comedy and original slasher. The things that would make it an eye rolling romantic comedy play into and elevate the horror elements and the romantic elements do a fantastic job at cutting the tension. The movie was just good time, it didn’t try to be elevated it just played its hand well.
