the entirety of this film is style over substance. I know it’s a challenge to carry the detail of book into film but the story if ultimately what made the book so fascinating.
the pov doesn’t add to really understanding the friendship, who the boys are, what are their relationships like. the lack of specifics make the characters flat. we don’t get a sense of the characters complex drives are that are in the book.
this a history here that is doesn’t have the same worldly depth that the book has.
I think imagery is interesting but the story lacks depth
