“I think I know where Craig might be hiding!”
    “Where?”
    “The attic.”
“…where I caught ya guys smoking that wacky tobacky?”

A slasher inside a social commentary inside a whodunnit.

Intruder (with a plodding script) is the last “great” indie slasher of the eighties era. Campy, yet obscenely graphic kills, perfectly dramatic lighting & larger-than-life production design - impressively pulled together on a shoestring budget.

And it wouldn’t be eighties horror without cameos from both Sam Raimi & Bruce Campbell.

“What do you call a group of people that does nothing?”
    “Congress.”

My review, much like the film itself, will not tread new water. Opus is a competently made directorial debut, to its own detriment. It has star power, the backing of a studio on the rise & nothing to say. Its third act is, by far, its most interesting. But getting there requires meandering through meaningless niceties.

It’s standout performance comes not from Malkovich nor Edebiri, but Amber Midthunder (Prey) who’s less of a “character”, per se, and more of a stunt double. She excels where the material flatlines.

“So if we bring yours back & kill one of ours?”
    “Peace.”

Mickey 17 is, unfortunately, the Megalopolis of 2025. While leagues ahead of the latter (specifically in its production design, alone) it’s the wrong script at the right time.

Bong Joon Ho is having an immense amount of fun in a post Parasite world. And that is a joy to behold. But that joy comes at the expense of a haphazard adaptation.
