Didn’t really know what I was getting into seeing this which made for a really uncomfortable theater experience as it became clear what the movie was about. A devastating and infuriating story that’s unfortunately pretty universal across cultures. The scene with all the aunts “comforting” Shula and Nsansa was sickening stuff. Family is the most important thing and you must never do anything to harm the family, and in return they will manipulate you and ruin your life and leave you to rot.

At the parts of the movie that drag a bit (of which there are few) you can stay entertained by just looking at it. The story itself is compelling and often really funny. A movie that absolutely should be seen in theaters if possible.

Unrelated: The men’s line was 5 times longer than the women’s at intermission and the ladies were all laughing at us and saying they had never seen that before
