  Loose Cannons 1990

  Gene Hackman carries this fluff of film with such ease, he makes it look so easy. No one rocks a Redskins jacket better than him. It's a delight seeing him even as the straight-man to Dan Aykroyd playing with multiple personalities of pop culture references that Hackman slowly comes to understand and accomodate with such kindness.

  I keep forgetting how great this film is. I've seen it about a handful of times spreadout over the years, that when I come upon it again, I'm awestruck again as though I just saw it for the first time.   I don't have fond feelings with this film, as I felt it didn't do the best portraying autistic people. But that was likely the audience I saw it with: everyone laughing their asses off at her quirks and meltdowns, and even doing impressions of her going "Moo" and such after the film was over.   I went in watching knowing that many have claimed it as a smart and misunderstood satirical anti-war piece and... honestly I kinda disagree. I agree that it was a satire, but at times I don't think it was a good satire film.
