Man, talk about laying an egg.
It's not that the story doesn't have its moments. The ending for Alice is actually kind of touching...until you have Alice still having to deal with the lingering effects of the T-Virus. Possible sequel bait? Well, thankfully they didn't take it.
The worst part of it is how goddamn ugly this film looks. Literally everything is drenched in a sepia tone or almost pitch black. And the shakey cam makes it even worse.

There's a 007/James Bond quality to this one I kinda like.
Anderson pays tribute to the opening of Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead at one point, but again, none of the chaotic intensity is retained when your zombies have ridiculous, flower petal-looking tongues popping out.
There's a fun creature feature element to Resident Evil through the other Umbrella Corporation abominations (Lickers, anyone?) that this one leans into, & it makes these movies somewhat more appealing beyond just their zombie element.…

I'm glad I watched Skull Island again a day or two before I saw this. Aside from the Iwi making their comeback, the exploration of Hollow Earth was very similar to exploring Skull Island.

A lot's been said about this fan favorite over the years. More or less a direct sequel to the first, & kicking off the Dream Trilogy.
