The least bad Paranormal Activity movie because it doesn't feel like it was supposed to be a Paranormal Activity movie.
A film where the most notable thing about is that being mid is actually a positive given how bad the previous 3 movies were.
It's like getting barely cold Jack Daniel's after drinking 3 shots of room temperature Malort.
A begrudgingly positive 5/10.
So this one is interesting. Basically, I'd hesitate to classify this one as an "elevated horror" or "art house horror". I think the proper term would be something like "film student horror." Because this is, by design, a bog standard slasher flick. The plot & characters are basically what you'd get if you took one of the later Friday the 13th films & mixed it with My Bloody Valentine.

Another year & another new entry in the revived V/H/S series.
I love these movies because they are not afraid to let directors get creative & they're great showcases for international talent that you don't usually get to see in the USA.
However, with that willingness to allow directors do what they want you do wind up with an inconsistency from segment to segment both in quality and tone.
Some years you get a film with more higher quality segments than others.…
