I hadn't watched this for a long time, and was delighted to find that it holds up beautifully. The pseudo-documentary touches are not laboured and serve the plot and characters well, supporting the gradual exposure of the narrative without ever feeling like an obstruction to it. The effects and design look great, both memorable and characterful, and allow the tilt towards action to remain compelling and tangible. I know Blomkamp's stock has dropped a bit since this, but this is enduring, and it made me want to seek out some of his other films.

As an introduction to James Bond Dr No works because this is completely Sean Connery's film. No other character comes close to the amount of screen time, and few carry through more than a couple of sections of the film. Connery himself is consumately cool and in control throughout, and seems the perfect match for the role so that it seems reasonable to ask which one did more for the fame and success of the other.
