Just because you’re paranoid, it doesn’t mean they aren’t watching you, or listening in in this case. Wonderfully tense thriller from FFC aka The Goat. Gene Hackman’s recent passing brought to mind some of the great movies he made in the 70s so I thought I’d revisit this. Definitely a slow burn, if you like your thrillers with plenty of car chases, explosions etc I’d swerve this one. Haven’t watched this movie in a long time but I’m glad I rewatched. It’s aged like a fine wine. Going to watch Arthur Penn’s Night Moves next, another Hackman 70’s classic.

The Brutalist 2024
3hrs 21 minutes in length, so a feat of endurance to sit through, but well worth it. Beautiful to look at, the scenes in the marble quarry were a particular stand out for me. Due to the length of the movie, there’s an intermission half way through. If there’s going to be intermissions in movies again how about bringing back usherettes too? You know it makes sense…..

Absolutely gripping!
An absolute revelation this movie. The true story of an ABC sports studio covering the Munich Olympics who have a breaking story about a terrorist attack falling into their lap. I’d forgotten much of what happened and that definitely helped tension wise, but even if you have a better knowledge of the events this is still a riveting watch. All the cast are great, especially Leonie Benesch who was completely new to me, but no real big hitters.…

A Complete Unknown 2024
As someone who is folk-averse, but who is a sucker for a music biopic regardless of whether I like the artist or not, I must say how much I enjoyed this movie. Timothee Chalamet is mesmerising as Dylan, completely nailing him. Director James Mangold does an excellent job of showing the vibrant Greenwich Village folk scene, also depicting the volatile time in American history very well. Supporting cast all excellent but Ed Norton and Monica Barbaro were the stand outs.…
