Desperate, insecure and toxically masculine Womac attempts to control all aspects of his life. Goob has to live with this shit show, and finds alternative ways of being. Playfulness with his brother, his friend Harrison and tenderness with a German fruit picker. Womac’s insecurities and violence create traumatic endings to these relationships. The film vividly depicts the rich treating servants in Extremadura like animals who only exist to serve their needs. For me the hope was in Quirce when he did not ‘respect’ Ivan as his father does. Ivan fears the young don’t respect what he calls a law of life - hierarchy. Azarías final reaction shows you can only push people so far before they fight back.

Mona wonders around a rural region of France in the winter, sleeping rough and not giving much of a fuck. She meets people who help her and people who hurt her. She likes dope and bread and not being bossed around. She is lovable, giggly, frustrating, intelligent, lost, and probably running from something. In the end it's not safe to wonder solo forever without loneliness and danger eating you up.
