This really feels like a short film that was stretched out to (just barely) reach feature length. If this were much shorter, I could forgive it for hardly even exploring its themes or revealing more of how the dog-man situation came to be. It’s like a Nostalgia Critic skit, but gay and actually funny (and deeply emotional).
That feels so reductive to say, even as a joke, but I had that thought too many times while watching this to not mention it.
Anyways, this is so good and you should watch it NOW. Even if you don’t end up liking it, there’s so much sincerity and uncompromised creativity here that I think anyone that isn’t transphobic/homophobic will at least appreciate it for those qualities.
