Nosferatu 2024
A longer leash and bigger budgets are not helping Robert Eggers achieve the same success be found in The Witch, the only film of his I’ve actually liked.
Nosferatu has some incredible visuals, but that’s all I can say for it. Bill Skarsgard is wasted under the makeup (too many lines in that voice don’t help), everyone is overacting (only Dafoe enjoyably), and there’s not much new to enliven this well worn story. Eggars should be a painter, he has an eye for cool shots, but little sense of how to string them into a story.

Intolerable Cruelty 2003
I disagree with anyone who says this is the Coen’s worst film (see The Ladykillers), and I suspect many who claim it is just don’t care for romantic comedies. Romcoms are not exactly my thing either, and this film didn’t convert me, but I still think it’s a fun time and worth watching for Coen completists.
Others will point out that this was work for hire, a gig salvaging a script stuck in development hell, so it’s not a true…
