I’m not sure whether this is just a bad Turkish film, or whether all Turkish cinema was this low quality in the 70s. But I’d hate to think that this was typical for the period because it’s an absolute stinker.

What an amazing, inspiring, sad, beautiful, wonderful, frightening, electrifying, and joyful film. Such an elegant concept contrasted against all the faults and failures of humanity.
And the future me says that I equally enjoy it the next time I watch it.
As a geographer, I’m very confused by much of this film. Still, a penguin crying ice cubes is cute enough.

I’ve been saving this film for a long time. A long, long time; and boy, am I disappointed!
Let’s start with the positives: Sterling Hayden is a great Roger Wade. A great, bearded, Hemingway-esque figure who plays the part to a tee. Better than I ever imagined him.
