  it’s been 5 days since i watched Safe, and it’s still with me - a testament to Todd Haynes unique ability to haunt the audience long after credits roll. in the Q&A following the screening, Haynes described how he purposefully wanted to accentuate the space between screen and viewer. this creates an aching sensation that compels you to physically lean forward. this unsettling dynamic, combined with the film’s deliberate pacing, has left me feeling exposed and strangely out of sync…

  mesmerizing doesn’t even begin to describe it. the production design is rendered with such impeccable care - listening to Guy Hendrix Dyas and Pablo Larraín describe their pilgrimage for Maria’s personal effects—and even the famed yacht of Aristotle Onassis—was humbling

  in one of my favorite scenes, Maria’s walk through Paris leads her to an ensemble performing in the rain, a detail so lovingly orchestrated & underscores how fervently this team cherishes every frame

  haven’t been in a theatre that laughed out loud this much since bridesmaids 10+ years ago.

  kept anticipating the moment this would become scary and am now convinced this was a marketing social experiment by NEON which i suppose is scary in itself. more campy then creepy.
