  Dance Crews are poor substitutes for the nuclear family and the other more traditional social structures.

  I appreciated how this film was presented. The long single camera shots , jittery lighting, and pulsating soundtrack combine to make the viewer feel “in” on the bad trip. 

  I believe the structure of the school was a conscious choice- it felt like the large ballroom signified something, bedrooms signified something, and the sort of atrium/foyer leading to the electrical closet signified something. I…

  I really wanted to not like this movie, but Nicolas cage’s inspired performance won me over. I’m very tired of the struggling writer/incel/headcase protagonist. In the beginning of the movie I was disappointed by the familiar plays- sexual frustration, neuroses, and lack of motivation. Once the brothers are introduced the film is entirely redeemed. Cage shines in demonstrating the optimism and willingness to fail that carry Donald while their absence sentences Charlie to failure. Every time “they” were on screen together I couldn’t get enough. A magical performance.
