“What Was I Made For?” tied a bow on the entire story and crystallized the film’s message so flawlessly. Like the film, angelic but haunting. An absolute gut punch.

“Si militas y crees en algo, eres feliz” ~ “If you fight for and believe in something, you are happy” said director Benjamín Ávila about the film. As much as it is a film about deep suffering, it is also a film about joy. Although the dark moments far outnumber the happy ones, the few blissful moments the characters share feel eternal. Infancia Clandestina is a film about irreconcilable truths, but, more importantly, the power of love in the most agonizing moments of adversity.

PSA: under no circumstance watch this w your grandparents.

Predictably excellent performances, but wholly spoiled by the theatrics. Maybeeee the melodrama would’ve been been slightly more tolerable had the characters’ relationships been developed. But it went from love at first sight to the most vulgar, tasteless emotional overkill u can imagine. Totally hysterical.

    Still, the carefree-urban-90s-romcom vibe was… a vibe
