  Some really good ideas on paper, and some of the tension and suspense is great, but the execution just isn’t there for the most part. The character arcs are super thin, the music is overbearing, and unlike The Invisible Man, which knew how to take full advantage of the premise of a person being invisible, Whannell somehow ends up downplaying a lot of the things that make the wolf man so terrifying. There are scary moments, but not enough of them, and they never feel fully explored.

  Alejandro Amenábar's cinematic debut was made on a shoe-string budget when he was still in film school, and tells the tale of a female high schooler and her journey into darkness, as she investigates a series of snuff productions for her thesis.

  Bryan Singer is back to clean up the mess left behind by Brett Ratner, and in that regard, he succeeds with bravoure. However, the real beauty of this film is how earthbound and character-driven it is. Sure, we get a couple of sensational set-pieces, but for the most part, the narrative is restraint and focused, never taking its eye off the ball, and always building emotion to make the viewer actually care once the carnage ensues.
