i feel like the direction gives the tonya character no grace or dignity, and the movie as a whole fails to transcend being just another way to capitalize on her story. just because the character points the finger at the audience in direct address doesn’t mean the film is off the hook

frequent stupid and sometimes evil choices don’t stop this from being a great watch. the attempt at jazz criticism feels way more egregious than what I remember from when I was in high school. but when the dimensions of the film land on the right beats I can’t help but be swept up
