Second watch. An admittedly tough one to rewatch so soon after seeing it a little over a month ago due to its length. Despite that, this over 3 and a half hour long movie still managed to keep my attention for the majority of it, which I think is an achievement in of itself. The scope of this movie is really admirable, even if some of its moments did come off as a little self-indulgent on this…

    Oscars Watch 2025

In a year where the state of movies represented in the Oscars seems wildly under developed, can we just forget all the punditry, all the campaigning and politics, all the money and ignorant voting practices, and give Best Picture to a movie that will no doubt leave behind a legacy. THIS, to me, is THE Best Picture of 2024.

Requires a huge suspension of disbelief that you understand more as you go through the film. The biggest thing that stands out to me is the direction. Coralie Fargeat pulled next to no punches on this one. It’s hard to think of a movie I’ve seen where swings like this are swung and they all mostly manage to land.

A movie that anyone who deals with an insecurity or addiction of any kind can relate to. Demi…

The motif of documenting family memories so the people we love live on forever is interwoven throughout this whole movie from Vera’s 1970s film camera to the iPhone. Really engrossing watch that never feels too devastating as the story unfolded in real life. A lot of this comes down to the character of Eunice, who allows herself moments of vulnerability in private but puts on a brave face to be the mom she still needs to be and to protect  and inspire her kids past tragedy. Fernanda Torres nails this role and may be my pick for Best Actress at this point.
