It's been a long time since I've been so completely and utterly charmed by a film, but Paper Moon hit that spot just right. Ryan and Tatum O'Neal are obviously perfectly cast, and, just as with The Last Picture Show, director Peter Bogdanovich's love affair with the movies is evident in every single frame of this moving, funny, sentimental film.

I love that the film eschews the cynicism of many of the other New Hollywood films of the '70s and…

To me, The Brutalist is far and away the best film of 2024. Like, seriously, it isn't close. Just a monumental achievement that I would put next to the likes of, say, Drive My Car as one of the best films of the decade so far.

Man, this is a film of two halves if I've ever seen one. The first half is entertaining, original, funny, and thought-provoking. The second half is illogical, tonally-inconsistent, and abandons most, if not all, of the interesting narrative threads from the first half. It's very obvious that this is a film that languished in development hell for years before being made.

Will Smith and Charlize Theron deliver nice performances throughout the film, though, so that's a plus. My only film-wide…
