Saltburn does a lot of things quite well— the set design, cinematography choices and 1.33:1 aspect ratio were all well executed and did a lot of heavy lifting in moving through the runtime.
That being said the pacing of the film left a lot on the table— it sometimes felt like it wanted to do too much of some things and too little of others which made the pacing start to drag and some late film exposition felt obvious and…
Idea— as a sort of cultural tax we should force studios to make one movie like this for every superhero movie that gets greenlit.
Seeing this film made me realize how much we’re missing a major sector of moviegoing lately— comedies that have a fun premise and a 7/10 ceiling.
There was some cool set design, Nick Cage’s throne room rigged a maze of blood bags looked great.
I think this movie knew exactly what it was and did the most they could with the idea. Sign me up for more vampire Nick Cage and unremarkable b-plots.

I’ve been told that a good film is a good case study in psychology, I think this movie made me realize that the adverse isn’t necessarily true.
I think Aster hit a really nice stride with the tone of Beau’s nondescript California urban apartment but as Beau’s journey continued my personal connection with each setting quickly waned.
