    New film #190

I was introduced to this film believe it or not, by one of my film heroes, William Friedkin. "Z" inspired William Friedkin to shoot "The French Connection" the way he did, in a documentary style format. Now personally, I think Friedkin did it better, but that's not to say "Z" is a terrible film either.

It's a convoluted political film, but it's interesting to follow. You think it will go one way, but then it goes in…

Another Cinema Arts Center film as this was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of the novel "Ragtime". The special treat was before the movie, the author's daughter did a PowerPoint presentation on the life of the author. I really don't think a film has struck such a raw nerve in me as this film has and I was trying to figure out why. Was it because of the two men playing the presidents' son and a prince in the British monarchy? They were good and made the film really shine, but that wasn't the reason. Was it because they were both masculine? I appreciated we really didn't have any stereotypical gay men here but that wasn't the…

    New film #12

I am a sucker for baseball documentaries. I always enjoying hearing about a player's life and the turbulent times they endured. If there is one portion I wished I heard about, it was the period from 1979-85 where he was banned from baseball because of his gambling connections. Despite that, it holds up. We won't hear from him for too much longer and therefore, must listen to every word he says.

P.S.- I'm glad they added the Mets retiring his number this summer. New York baseball's story could not be told without him and now, everyone will truly know his legacy.
