The crescendo of disorienting and rushed movements of the film's protagonist, László Toth, as he emerges from the compartment of his vessel culminates with a final shot of the Statue of Liberty, though a peculiar one. The statue is inverted. Very seldom do we see the beacon and symbol of freedom, the American dream, and opportunity in such a manner.
