Ponyo 2008
I have a bad habit of not believing people when they tell me a movie is great. Im stubborn and usual think that it will still be good, but probably overhyped. I’m happy to say that I was wrong when it comes to Ponyo. This film is simply delightful in basically every way. Animation. Art. Story. Characters. And on and on and on. I think that although no singular songs stand out, this film might have the best complete soundtrack of any ghibli film. Just so very fun.

This is a very different film than any other film that I have seen. In that way, I don’t necessarily feel confident in my score. I think I may need time to sit on it or potentially rewatch it. Every actor in this film, especially Mikey Madison, does a fantastic job. I like a lot of the cinematography and editing choices. It is surprisingly very funny at times, especially in the middle act. I think it has a strong theme and message throughout. I think this one has left me thinking.

Castle in the Sky 1986
Ghibli doesn’t miss. Another great film. Not as deep as some others, but still a very fun and great story. Once again it’s absolutely beautiful and the soundtrack is amazing. Also the dub voice cast of every Ghibli film is absolutely bonkers and stuffed full of talent.

The Secret World of Arrietty 2010
I really liked this movie, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag at times. The highs are really high, but there are more lows than the usual Ghibli film.
