  Saw this in 35mm at the musicbox, with the author of the original book there! Awesome to watch a classic wholesome sports comedy that isn’t afraid to really have some meat to it and make the audience uncomfortable. ofc a lot hasn’t aged well, and there’s a lot here to make you question the intentions of the creators, but it’s still a lot of fun and I really connected to the characters

  Robert Eggers is our greatest modern director. The way the camera moves through some of the greatest sets I’ve ever seen… the masterful lighting, the goddamn blocking, the costumes!! Career best performances from every actor involved (except Willem of course haha), etc etc. Every possible aspect of this film is firing on all cylinders. Like, this might be recency bias or whatever, but I genuinely can’t imagine a film more masterfully crafted than this. There are montages in here that…
