Absolutely skewering a particular kind of awful man - the guy who is outwardly very normal, not quite an incel or “nice guy” but your average boring guy who sees himself as decent but is actually selfish, immature and ultimately misogynist.
Fun film - but I thought that was one aspect that that worked extremely well
God awful queer baiting first two acts, populated by cardboard cutout characterisations; before a third act that felt like it totally lost any idea of how to end it and somehow simultaneously became painfully obvious. I don’t even think it’s meant to be a twist, it just feels like where it’s going the entire time and injecting a couple of lurid moments in is a vague attempt at making that provocative.
It looks really nice if engineered for screen grabs and gifs of tumblr was still going strong.
Not even worth copy pasting the “really scary until the monster is revealed more and they have to beat the shit out of it” comment that applies to all modern horror… but at least I still thought the creature design on this was scary and grosse even once it was seen fully.
Some fun scares along the way but wildly forgettable otherwise.
