Waves 2019
There is something so deep and intimate about this movie. It all starts so calm, slow, peaceful, giving you the promise of reconciliation with the self and highlighting redemption. Then it barrels in and it doesn't give you a second to catch up. There's tension, violence and hurt, the stakes quickly rise until they're suddenly consummated. Then the film simmers and stirs, like the soft bubbly foam after a wave laps up at the shore. It perfectly captures the energy of a wave. Unforgiving, quick and powerful, much like love and violence.
