I recently rewatched Robert Eggers' The Lighthouse and it left me with just as much of a strong impression as it had done the first time.
The black-and-white aesthetic works beautifully for highlighting scenery. The boxy 1.19:1 aspect ratio also encloses the events into a tight space, much like how our two protagonists are trapped in the limited confines of the lighthouse and the island.
