Godzilla Minus One 2023
Great design of Godzilla itself, and fantastic shots and sfx. All dramatic tension however, was undercut by predictable tropes, and convenient happenstance. In light of the history of monster movies, the overwrought acting is forgivable, but in terms of modern film making it’s annoying. Doesn’t need a rewatch.

Edward G. Robinson’s performance is worth the price of admission. The price is having to sit through terrible dialogue, and an opening premise that’s as thin as tissue paper. If you like the look of Noir (or miss seeing pants that buckle just below the nipple), then it’s also worth it for that, too.

Just finished this, and am trying to disentangle everything. Could take a while. Did I like it? Yes. Do I understand it? Fuck no. Don’t care about that right now. It was engrossing, and unsettling (in both sound and visuals); slow, creepy, and mysterious. So, it’s a Lynch movie. Set pieces and locations check the Lynch motif list (deserts, hallways, sparse interior decor). The intrusion of electronics (intercoms, phones, video cameras) is ever present.
