It is amazing how well this movie operates with simple but effective characterization and crazy action while finding a way to build genuine conflict and satisfying resolution.
Honestly, if you step away from it all, the story is a good analogy of how to fix a relationship.

My GOD the cringe I suffered during this movie watching animated teenage girls squeek to a Backstreet Boys stand-in band ... but that cringe was due to how honest the characterization is.
I feel this movie owes a lot to Brave in terms of themes, however I believe the mother-daughter-puberty-paranormal hijinx is excecuted better here as the story really focuses in on the characters and their relationships.
