Who is this movie for? It certainly doesn’t feel like it was made for Mexican audiences, nor does it seem intended for trans people. As someone who is both, I can confidently say the answer is neither.
The film presents Mexico as an impoverished, cartel-run hellscape, an exaggerated and misleading portrayal that does a disservice to the country. At the same time, it reduces the trans experience to a pathetic display, missing the depth and nuance it deserves.
