Think this film is masterfully directed. Some iconic shots in the film (kids trying to escape by boat down river, shot of mother in car underwater). The use of aerial shots really fit well with the deep religious themes present throughout the movie. Uses shadows effectively and contrasting darkness and light.

A very clever, smart French noir. The film almost walks on a tightrope, delicately delivering a tale which makes you grapple with the weight of culpability.
