I love whimsical entertainment, but i will say, the wasted potential of depth regarding the moral implications disappointed me. The first half of this movie? WHY DID HE LEAVE HIS HOMETOWN I JUST WANTED TO KNOW THAT
I can’t believe im saying this but this movie would’ve been SO MUCH BETTER if it didn’t have that romance plot… wouldn’t it have been much more interesting to focus on hodaka’s character and his journey as a runaway kid in rainy tokyo?? It could’ve even had the fantasy japanese folkore aspect to it as well. Lots of wasted potential for a much more interesting and compelling story, im kinda disappointed.
I feel like Suzune is the PERFECTED version of this movie. Let’s just say this was Shinkai’s flop era.
