An excellent example of a very long movie which somehow does not feel as long as it is. The 4 sisters are endearing and interesting. The movie toes the perfect line of showing us the sisters' lives as individuals and as threads tied up with one another.
It's charming, realistic, and compelling to the point I'm almost embarrassed I never once got bored. I chalk this up to the ability of the movie to utilize the Makioka sisters as historical…

Not the most profound movie in the world, but it isn't trying to be. Gets straight to the point and I appreciate that.
Stylish as fuck, scriptwriting hits the sweet spot of just realistic enough to not feel annoying but just over the top enough to feel cool as hell. 2000s rock music hits the sweet spot, and they really killed it with costume design and set design.
This movie is a little undervalued because it's not groundbreaking in anyway, but successfully creating a movie whose goal is to be cool (without being too amateurly directed) is a harder task than one might expect.
