A very solid and fun popcorn movie.
The political commentary, while on the nose, never felt annoying and was quite funny. I can understand why the commentary is so blatant especially in regard to *other* movies about space colonization.
I wish I could rate this higher because the performances were stellar and so were the visuals, but I felt the movie could have used it’s run time a little wiser in regards to the emotional impact of the ending and last line.
Also Steven Yeun plays a selfish asshole particularly well.

Blue Velvet 1986
Lynch portrays the subconscious male mind’s desire to be good while loving evil perfectly. Alongside some beast mode cinematography, the performances were stellar with Frank really standing out to me. I felt as if the ending is meant to highlight that not talking about trauma made Jeffrey just as detached from reality as Frank was. Not only does the ending play out like a dream, but the mechanical robin (fake love) pulls the bugs out of the lawn showing that evil is more present in Jeffrey now than ever. Blue Velvet isn’t about Good vs. Evil. It’s about living with Good AND Evil.
