Titane 2021
love how julia ducournau compels us to empathize with her protagonists. it’s weird but she pairs violence with tenderness and understanding (justine and adrien in raw; alexia and vincent in titane) and she makes it work. this theme is more prominent in titane which at its core is really just about unconditional love.
i admit this went over my head in the ending of raw bc i was cackling as the credits rolled 😂 but this was stressed on in the final sequence of titane that it’s impossible to miss.

the first movie i watched from mike leigh. and i love it! some thoughts:
- most of the characters are teachers just like poppy. i think poppy is the ideal teacher because as much as she guides her students, she also learns from them and the people she comes across with. teaching is a never-ending process of learning, to which scott fails miserably.
- sally hawkins is a marvel to watch. her character’s cheerfulness and “happy-go-lucky” nature is so believable.…
