  • The Brutalist

    The Brutalist

    ★★★

The Brutalist felt more like an outline of a great American masterpiece than a true masterpiece. All the technical elements are there, but the script at its core is devoid of true depth and insight that would have taken it there. Characters felt like caricatures instead of real, lived in people. It’s like Corbet went in the wanting to make a 3.5 hour film and then tried to stretch a story that didn’t need this treatment to meet this objective.…

    Wicked

    ★★½

Wicked may be brimming to life with magnificent production design and costumes but at its core the story is too bare-bones and uninteresting to sustain a 160 minute film. Grande makes the most of her role as Glinda but Erivo as the titular Elphaba is such a bland character that even her incredible voice can’t make up for it. Dancing Through Life remains the best song in the film as it actually brings the world of Oz to life, even for a brief moment. All in all, this is a highly overrated film.
