  this works very well and i was engaged throughout, but all the excellent acting and nuanced writing couldn't quite shake a feeling of television-esque slightness in the material - like suckering arthouse film purveyors into the simple pleasures of a law and order episode.

  a very strange experience. the stunts, action, score, exotic locales, booby traps, colourful characters et al are all there. so why does it feel so fake, so insignificant, so limply lacking in magic?

  another sleazy neo-noir 

  that rare breed of hollywood studio film that is wholly inept in a what-were-they-thinking capacity. this is essentially a film for no one. far too strange and off kilter to satisfy popcorn munchers and too outrageously stupid to please the film noir adherents.
