All We Imagine As Light captures the truths, dreams and pains of a life in transience in honest detail. The absence of a partner can be felt in a million little ways, each of them an injury in its own right. The disconnect from society only accompanies you in your detachment from those closest.
I want to cry now. It's a good film, watch it.
I want to like this. The premise is engaging, the design—costume, set, lightning—interesting. It's pretty funny, and there's some transparant social commentary for the girls.
But it just doesn't quite come together.
The wobbly cam is too wobbly, the performances a bit too disjointed.
Altogether it just doesn't stick the landing. Looking forward to this crew's next project.

I'm Still Here sets out to do a lot, and accomplishes it all with great verve.
This is the kind of movie that has enough weight to it that it has a chance of piercing ideology and the allure of authority. It goes without saying that it has landed at a critical time.
