  A recurring theme of my cinephile life is how to feel about films that clearly owe their existence to other films - is The Departed so good because its good, or because Infernal Affairs is good? Did Magnificent Seven improve on Seven Samurai or are they distinct enjoyable experiences? etc etc.

  Fanfare d'Amour is thankfully, very different than Some Like It Hot, which makes it easier to judge. This was a delight and I enjoyed the competition between the guys and amused that their drag is so terrible and hilariously unquestioned. Would recommend.

  Batman 1989

  When I was 3 years old my birthday cake was Batman themed. I think this film is a integral part of my development. I attribute my life-long love of German expressionism, practical effects, moody lighting, and Prince to this movie. It was a bit shocking to realize this was the first time I ever saw it on the big screen - all of my hundreds of previous viewings were at home with the VHS tape.
