Fun and slick filmmaking, somewhat low-key but lots of energy to it. Went in with no expectations and had a pretty great time. Soderberg can’t be stopped!

Rewatched this again; it’s a movie from another time and culture - so many moments, aesthetics and feelings that felt very fresh and relevant once upon a time now seem bygone. Thats not a bad thing though, it’s like visiting old tumblr pages on the way back machine - very twee and sentimental, overly nostalgic, sometimes transgressive, sometimes cringe, but also sincere. And kinda like tumblr, it mean’t lot to a lot of lonely people.

My god I love how it’s shot and some awesome performances wow. But overall I didn’t really connect with it that deeply - there’s a lot of going on thematically, lots of ideas around trauma, identity, art, prejudice, capitalism, America, etc. but I’m not really sure all of them really hit, nor positions I totally agree with. And there’s an arty-wank ambiguity to this film that starts to drag after 3hrs+. Still an experience but not for me.

The best / most interesting version of this story imo. Romantic, melancholy, existential, sad boy Nosferatu is a better take, a great soundtrack, and some absolute phenomenal visuals - the Dance Macabre scene is so haunting, will stick with you forever. Isabelle is gorgeous, Werner is the goat.
