people say jessica tandy isn’t playing mary staurt masterson and vice versa. maybe that’s true but i don’t believe it.
i love seeing how the sausage gets made. nothing better than watching people doing stuff. but this, for all its tight-knit ragtag spectacle falls a bit short by its end. i don’t know why. maybe my brain isn’t used to processing things shorter than 138-minutes anymore.
made me want to finally sit down and watch spielberg’s munich though. and it definitely made me want to revisit the post, and shattered glass.
beguiling, sexy, nauseating, hilarious, horrifying. that’s cinema right there. julianne wields that lisp like a dagger. it’s her no country bowl cut, but better. i love when art is like you’re laughing? these people’s lives are a freakshow, and you’re laughing?
moments where i had to steel myself lest i burst out laughing or groan and be torn limb from limb by the moms and daughters in the audience. strange pacing and choices. misguided-to-offensive.
and yet, despite all that, despite going in wanting to hate it, i liked it. they got my ass good.
blake just has it. tumbleweed hair, ugly rings, dressed like a clown… nothing can stop her. nevertheless, she persisted!
