    Not Bong Joon Ho’s strongest outing to date. I enjoyed this movie quite a bit although the messaging is far less toned down in quite a few areas. It sits somewhere between Parasite and Snowpiercer, for me, in terms of tone, setting, and metaphor for classism. Overall, worth a watch and I’m looking forward to watching it again sometime.

    Although I was in my early 20’s in 2008, this movie still provides an accurate depiction of growing up at this time. The message of teen awkwardness, finding love, your tribe, and yourself feels universal across time, but the time period is driven home with the use of AIM, MySpace, Facebook, and texting on a flip phone. The visual elements and language used when these are on screen hit me right in the chest with how spot on they were.…
