  Greenway's painterly attitude in his making of this film is tactile and rich, it's like a series of paintings come to life.
  Exaggerated jaccobean costumes are worn; towering curly whurly wigs and frilly frou frou skirts. The formality in the demeanour and also in the dress of the characters feels like a really interesting and accurate representation of how figures and characters out of jacobean and baroque paintings would exist and act.
